There are a lot of things to say about the all too common story this young fellow tells. But, let's stick to the highlights.
The idea that employees are encouraged to "take one for the team" when their superiors routinely devise ever more clever posterior coverings, is not OK.
Asking someone be thorough, professional and accountable and then falsely citing them for sloppiness, is not OK.
Teaching everyone in the organization that you're going to tell the customers one story and the people inside the company another story, is not OK.
See, this is the kind of behavior that infuriates young people, in particular.
We've brought them up to believe that this country is a place where merit counts, where we tell the truth, where anybody has a right to be heard, that right will win out. Then we do things, large and small that undermine those messages.
If we don't want cynicism, we need to stop acting in ways that encourage it...otherwise, all we're doing is reaping what we sow.
Meanwhile, somebody do something to help Jeff get a new job...he sounds like the kind of guy you could count on in a pinch.

Thanks for linking to my story, Tom! I agree wholeheartedly with your analysis.
